Dr. Roger Amiton passed away March 21, 2020 after a lengthy battle with frontal lobe dementia.
Roger was born in Portland, the oldest son of Bill and Florence Amiton. He attended Grant High School, the University of Washington and University of Oregon. He completed dental school at OHSU and practiced dentistry in Portland for almost 30 years. Roger semi-retired in the early ‘90s and spent his remaining years following his bliss. He spent a year tromping through Australia, working on his tan and learning to sail; he built a beloved book cart, Parnassus on Wheels, which he set up at Saturday Market; and he honed his artistic talents spending hours painting and drawing. Roger loved jazz music and was never shy about breaking out his slide whistle and playing along. He was a regular watcher of Hee Haw and 60 Minutes, devoured sweets – especially eclairs and ginger snaps – and loved his car – a cherry red Mazda RX-7.
Roger is survived by his four children – Scott (Nina), Julie (Jeff Bowersox), Allison (Drew Cogen) and David (Caitlin), and seven grandchildren. Additional survivors include his brother Marshall (Karrie), and sister Debbie Matulef (Bob), and former wife, Linda Ostomel.
