Olivia Horenstein

June 10, 1923 - November 15, 2021

Olivia Horenstein passed away November 15, 2021 of natural causes.  She was surrounded by her children.

Olivia was born on June 10, 1923, in Plainview, Texas to Frank and Rosa Mae Hassel. She was one of four children. She moved to Oregon in 1936.

She worked for the Corp. of Engineers.

Olivia met her future husband, Max Horenstein, on the sand just off the Boardwalk in Seaside, Oregon.  They married six months later on February 22, 1947, and remained married until Max passed away in 2002.

Max and Olivia had three children, Judy (Ross) Crosby, David (Judy) Horenstein, and Toni (John) Devers, five grandchildren, Olivia (Eric) Benson, Aaron Crosby, Matthew Crosby, Christopher (Kayla) Horenstein and Andrew Horenstein, and two great-granddaughters, Chloe, and Ashley Benson.

Olivia was fun-loving, gregarious, and full of mischief. Her contagious laugh and radiant smile could, and did, light up the room. She enjoyed going to the casino, spending time with her family, sledding with her grandchildren, walking, and hiking.

Olivia was predeceased by her husband Max and her three siblings, Frank, George, and Margaret. Her two half-brothers, Howard Hassell and Andy Prock, also predeceased her. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughters.

She was deeply loved by her family and numerous friends and will be sorely missed every day.

Arrangements will be made by Holman’s Funeral Service.  There will be a graveside service on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Shaarie Torah Cemetery, 8013 SE 67th Avenue in Portland.  Due to COVID, there will be no get-together after the service.  PLEASE WEAR MASKS.
