Mary Janette Sikorski

Our angel, Mary, departed this world June 19, 2022, joining her beloved husband, Ed, and family members in heaven.

Mary was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Cavour, S.D., to Gustave and Mary Janette Corbin Martin. Mary was the second youngest of seven children. The family moved from Cavour to Boise, Idaho, and Mary attended St. Teresa’s Academy, Boise High School and Boise Junior College. At age 21, Mary moved to Portland and lived in the residence at the old St. Vincent Hospital on Westover Road. She worked at St. Vincent for more than 40 years. Dancing was a passion and, in 1944, Mary met Edward Sikorski at a Catholic USO dance.

They married in 1947 and had one daughter, Suzanne Claire (Glasgow). The family lived in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Portland. Ed died in 1991. Mary stayed in the neighborhood, dancing, traveling, visiting family and enjoying the company of neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue (John); two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of of life is planned for 11 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner for more than 70 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Oregon Talking Book and Braille Library.
