Marsha Jo Murray-Lusby

Marsha Murray-Lusby, of Beaverton, Oregon, died on June 24th, 2019. She was born in Missoula, Montana to Marshall Murray and Joan Brooks Murray on May 10th, 1957. Marsha grew up in Kalispell, Montana, attending Flathead High School. After living in Turkey (American Field Service) for one year, she attended the University of Montana earning a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science, graduating with high honors. While attending UM, Marsha was active in Delta Gamma Fraternity. She spent a year traveling the United States on behalf of Delta Gamma as a Field Consultant.


Following this year, she attended Willamette University College of Law, graduating cum laude in 1984. She participated in the Willamette Law Review, and was Managing Editor of Production. Admitted into the Oregon State Bar in 1984, she practiced law for 35 years, all of which was at the law firm Dunn Carney LLP. From 2013-2019, Marsha earned a spot on Best Lawyers in America for Trusts and Estates. She was also deemed among the Oregon Super Lawyers for Estate Planning from 2012-2019. In 2011, 2012, and 2014 she was voted for the Five Star Professional List in Estate Planning in the Portland Area. Marsha also received the Martindale-Hubbell, AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating, listed as a Top Rated Lawyer in Trusts and Estates.


Marsha married Russell Lusby in August 1984 at Kootenai Lodge, Swan Lake, Montana. Upon completion of law school, Marsha and Russ moved from Salem to the Portland area to begin her law career with Dunn Carney. Marsha gleaned much support from her early mentors at the firm and quickly was made partner. In 1990, Marsha gave birth to her son, Drew and in 1996 her daughter Rachel.


Marsha was always an avid supporter of the arts, especially that of Art Literacy at Oak Hills Elementary School where she served as site liaison and classroom volunteer. Marsha supported a variety of organizations, serving on the board of Metropolitan Family Service and planned giving advisory counsels of Oregon Public Broadcasting, CODA, and Oregon Health Sciences Foundation.


Marsha spent countless hours at the soccer field watching both of her kids compete. Aside from soccer, she encouraged her kids to participate in basketball and golf. As a family, they loved golfing on vacation. Marsha enjoyed cooking and baking starting at an early age. Her favorite dish to make was soup, always making enough to share with the people she loved. She enjoyed sampling new foods from all over the world. When she wasn’t cooking or watching sports, you could often find her reading one of her many murder mystery novels on her Kindle. Marsha loved watching Rick Steves journey around the world, and she felt lucky enough to travel with her husband and kids to Europe, seeing in person the sites she always wanted to experience. She held season tickets for the Broadway Series in Portland, regularly attending shows with various family members and friends.


Marsha is survived by her husband Russ of 35 years, children Drew and Rachel. She leaves behind parents, Marshall Murray of Hillsboro and Joan Murray of Portland. In addition, a sister Kathy Ficken, husband Mark and children Elizabeth, Emelia and Matt, and Karl of Beaverton and a brother Scott of Incline Village, NV. She is also survived by aunts Connie (Ed) Lord, Phyllis Lewis, and Avice (Ivan) Hoff. In addition, she leaves a brother-in-law Doug Lusby and sister-in-law Lisa Lusby, nieces Kristin and Larry and Sarah.


Marsha’s Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11am at Sunset Presbyterian Church, 14986 N.W. Cornell Rd., Portland, OR 97229. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you provide donations to Metropolitan Family Services or Oregon Public Broadcasting in her honor.
