Louise Helen “Dolly” (Sacchini) Piacentini died in Portland Jan 16 at the age of 88 surrounded by loving family.
Louise was born in Portland, August 28, 1930, to Frank and Rose Sacchini, who had recently immigrated from Laterina in Tuscany, Italy. She was the second of four girls (Mary Ann, Angie, and Nancy), and acquired her nickname, “Dolly,” because her older sister Mary Ann thought she was her new doll. Louise attended Abernathy Elementary School, Washington High School, and the University of Portland, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She married John Piacentini on May 19, 1956 and they went on to raise seven children. Louise continued her career as a Nursing Floor Supervisor at St. Vincent’s Hospital until the birth of her second child. Louise’s greatest source of joy was her family. She was always there for her children and grandchildren and took particular interest in what each of them was doing, readily traveling across the country to attend a grandchild’s play, game, or graduation.
Louise was a fabulous cook and gardener, but baking was her passion. She loved hosting and cooking for family gatherings, and all were welcome at “Dolly’s” Sunday dinners. Louise’s kindness and selflessness were clear to all who knew her. She was a dog lover and had many dogs throughout her life. Louise truly enjoyed spending time in Gearhart, surrounded by family and her dogs.
Louise always saw the best in everyone and volunteered much of her time helping those in need. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for over forty years, assisted much of the time by her sisters, daughters, and nieces. Louise also donated time to Outside In, a Portland organization supporting homeless youth.
Louise is survived by her children, John (Santa Monica, CA), Lori (Portland), Richard and Teresa (Seattle), Mary and Tom (Portland), and Matthew (New York City); daughters-in-law, Caroly, Andrea, Angela, Tanya, and son-in-law, Vincent; 14 grandchildren, Ben, Gabe, James, Jack, Laura, Christopher, Francesca, Adrianna, Eric, Julia, Sophia, Eleña, Jarno, and Maggie; sisters, Mary Ann Sacomano and Nancy Andresen (Dave); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Louise was predeceased in death by her husband, John, and grandchildren, Olivia and Nicholas.
Memorial is 11am Friday (1/25) at St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1716 NW Davis St., Portland, OR. Funeral arrangements by Holman’s Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Outside In (www.outsidein.org)
