“George Washington Yellott III “Sonny” was born to George and Anna Belle Yellott on March 28, 1940 in Litchfield, Minnesota.
He passed away at Cascade Terrace Nursing Center in Portland, Oregon on March 21, 2019 just one week short of his 79th birthday.
He is survived by his younger sister, Emily Hursh, of Auburn, Washington.
His two sons, George and Jeff Yellott of Portland, Oregon.
As well as 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The Yellott’s moved to Myrtle Point, Oregon when Sonny was just a boy. He grew up and graduated High School in that area where as a teenager he worked for the Forestry Service.
He then enlisted in the Oregon National Guard and was honorably discharged from it.
He met and married Dorothy McAnally (Dee Cummins). They had George and Jeff. Sonny left the family soon after Jeff was born and for the next several years he lived and worked in Las Vegas. During that time he graduated from UNLV and worked primarily in the Hotel Hospitality industry.
Twenty years later he returned to the Portland area where he re-established relationships with his two sons and his grandsons: Seth, Jeffrey, and Jesse.
A little over twenty years ago he suffered an accident as a truck drive which led to his right leg being amputated.
After this he returned to school and graduated from Portland Community College with and Associates degree in Applied Science as a Paralegal.
He used this career change to later be nominated four times from 2012 to 2018 as the Republican candidate for the 48th District of the State of Oregon House of Representatives.
During that time he served on the Board of Directors for Mount Hood Community College.
A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, April 15, 11;00 am at Lincoln Memorial.”
