Elisa “Lee” Shleifer Funes, age 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at her home in Portland. She had been lovingly cared for by her children, in home care and hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Mercada Babani; her sisters, Jean (Babani) Philan, Joy (Babani) Russell; and her two husbands, Morrie Shleifer and Ralph Funes. She is survived by her son, Denny Shleifer; daughter, Janis Shleifer-Rosenfeld; four grandchildren, Tiffany Shleifer, Zach Shleifer, Erin Rosenfeld LaRosa, Keli Rosenfeld Amos; two great-grandchildren, Daniela and Dylan LaRosa; and sister, Mary (Babani) Peizner.
Lee graduated from Commerce (Cleveland) High School in 1944. She was a lifetime member of Congregation Shaarie Torah and Congregation Ahavath Achim. She volunteered at Portland Adventist Hospital following the death of her first husband Morrie. She spent many years as a retail salesclerk in the children’s department at Nordstrom in downtown Portland. She also was an active member of the sisterhood at Robison Health Center and Hadassah. She loved her Lincoln City residence with her second husband Ralph. They traveled many times with her extended family to various locations in the United States and abroad.
A service was held Monday. The family appreciates all the support from family, friends and our caregiving team.
