Dong (Tony) Zhou

November 8, 1997 - August 11, 2022

Tony was born in Shenzhen, China. He is the son of Yan Zhou and Li Jian.

He graduated from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida excelling as a student athlete in the basketball program.

Tony attended the California College of Art in San Francisco, CA from 2017 to 2019. He then moved to Detroit, Michigan graduating with honors from the College of Creative Studies (CCS) in 2021, majoring in Product Design.

Upon graduation, he moved to Portland, Oregon and interned in the Innovation Department at Nike and was hired on as a full-time employee. Tony never lost his passion for basketball. A desire to experience life to the fullest he also enjoyed nature, cycling, hip-hop dancing, and art. As a spiritual person he was an adherent of Tibetan Buddhism.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Aug 24, 2022 from 4pm to 6pm at:

He was the brother of my best friend. His dad was remarried to my best friend's mom and my best friend told me often about stories of him. Nobody should be judged based on their ethnicity or family.

Tony remains one of the most talented designers I will ever meet. I will never forget his passion when we were designing boots for the winter olympics. I couldn’t help but smile and admire his enthusiasm, nor the lengths that he went to to make brilliant concepts come to life through his prototypes and beautiful drawings. I continue to think, to this day, that it was so lucky for me that he offered to fly me out on a moments notice to Florida in 2020, as he left important documents in Detroit. Not only was he a great host, but helped me reschedule my flight for important business I had back at home. If I had known it would be the last time I would see him, I probably would never of left. He was generous, patient, and genuine. The world loses an incredible talent, but I hope that his friends, colleagues and I will continue to be inspired by his passion.

Dear Tony, we used to be very close and had so much fun during our time in college, you're a very smart, hard-working, and talented designer. I was so happy for you that your shoe design got selected by Jeremy Lin and it became the Jeremy's first signature shoe. I wish the world would have seen your talent better. But I'm sure you're shining on the other world. Rest in Peace my brother.
