Don W. Wolfe
Feb. 21, 1933 – April 25, 2019
Donald Whisler Wolfe, of Portland, born Feb. 21, 1933 in Washington D.C., to Myrtle Whistler Wolfe and Donald H. W. Wolfe, passed away at age 86 April 25, 2019 in Milwaukie.
He married Patricia Ann Edmonds Jan. 19, 1953 in Portland. He graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Music and again in 1976 with a Master of Music Education.
Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1959, including two years of active duty in Honolulu during the Korean War.
Music was Don’s gift, his passion and his life. He taught choral music at Cleveland, Reynolds, Jefferson and Clackamas high schools and the Catlin Gabel School. He was a respected choral clinician and adjudicator, known by his peers for his positive and instructive approach.
Don was devoted to the Apostolic Faith Church in Portland. He was their director of music for over 40 years, leading their all-volunteer choir and orchestra in both sacred and classical selections.
In his aging years, he was lovingly cared for by his wife Pat who was by his side when he passed early Thursday, April 25, 2019.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pat; seven children, Connie Lytle, Kathleen Wolfe, Gary Wolfe, Larry Wolfe, Debra Wolfe, Cheryl Wolfe and Lori Stuart; as well as 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the Apostolic Faith Church, 5601 S.E. Duke St., Portland.
