Daniel Phillip DeGroat, age 41, passed away unexpectantly October 24, 2022 in Portland, OR. Born February 10, 1981 in Montrose, PA. Formerly of Belmont, WI, San Diego, CA, Ithaca, NY, and Portland, OR, Dan had an adventurous life. He spent his childhood in the woods and fields of Wisconsin exploring the quarry, creek, and trails. Dan could also be found nose deep in books of horror, comics, science fiction, and frequently, the dictionary and encyclopedia. Dan grew up surrounded by music, drumming, and games. These loves continued into adulthood as his creative, satirical self blossomed. He wrote poetry and stories and immersed himself in nature. He would often greet you by sharing a comedian’s monologue or new song he had enjoyed, and he was pretty humorous himself. He shared his joy of life and learning with those around him and is survived by three beautiful children David, Jasmine, and Gregory DeGroat, his parents Loretta and David DeGroat, and his siblings Rebecca and Paul DeGroat, and Anna Hughes.
Because of Dan’s love of Nature there will be a Celebration of Life near the creek and pond he would frequent at the Enfield Grange; 178 Enfield Main Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. Please join us at 2pm. Donations and cards can be sent to 306 Piper Road, Newfield, NY 14867 or online through this link.
