Adela Sacdalan

Adela Corpuz Sacdalan, 73, of Portland, Oregon passed away September 10, 2023, due to complications from congestive heart failure.

She was born to the late Jose Buen and Margarita Corpuz Buen on January 1, 1950, in La Union, Philippines. Adela graduated from Franklin High School in 1968 and her highest education achieved was a Bachelor’s degree. With her degree, she secured a job as a Medical Transcriptionist at Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), where she would stay for over 20 years. It was during this time that Adela found her passion for volunteering and performing traditional Filipino dances at the Fil-Am of Portland where she had been involved until health complications from a stroke reluctantly slowed her down in 2018.

She married Fernando (Ferdie) Sacdalan in November 1973, and they lived together in Portland, Oregon for over 40 years, before relocating to Scottdale, Arizona. Adela is survived by her husband: Fernando, and their daughter, Sabrina, along with Sabrina’s husband, Jeff and their two children, Adela’s only grandchildren. To include her brothers Adolfo Buen and Almirante Buen.

When Sabrina, Adela’s only child was born, Adela decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. As a grandmother (Lola), she was the first person to show up when both of her grandkids were born, and she attended as many of their events as she could. She was the foundation of our family, through and through. She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say, never missed a special date, and could always find the best sales when shopping. Whether she was happily supporting Sabrina through high school during cheerleading or dance team, feverishly encouraging Ferdie, especially when he was the Portland Fil-Am President, or joyfully attending her grandkids’ awards ceremonies, she was our family’s constant advocate and supporter.

Adela was always a passionate performer and when she wasn’t at home entertaining guests, she could be found in a dance hall with Ferdie doing ballroom dancing or visiting historical landmarks for the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) in Portland.
