Victor Herbert Wandtke, 81 of Portland, passed away, March 6, 2017, after a three month battle with cancer. Vic is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Susan; and his devoted children, Erich Wandtke and Karin Wandtke (Richard Smith); granddaughter, Sara; all of Portland; and sister, Marilyn Wandtke of Mill Valley, Calif. Born Dec. 26, 1935 in Chicago to Herbert Wandtke and Victoria Slunski, his family moved to Gresham, Ore., in 1946. He graduated from Gresham Union High School and attended the Univ. of Oregon and Univ. of Portland. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, where he was part of the Defense Intelligence Agency during the cold war. From an early age, Vic was a car, motorcycle and airplane enthusiast. He bought a MG-TC in 1954 and it has remained a member of the family. Vic was a charter member of Club T-MG and belonged to several car clubs and Oregon Vintage Motorcycles. Upon returning from Germany in 1961, he started Techniphoto Photography. In 1981, he entered real estate and residential appraising and was majority owner of Rivertown Realtors until his retirement. Vic will be remembered for his mastery of many languages, his love of classical music and opera, his constant reading – especially history, his remarkable photographic memory, his love of cars and motorcycles, his mastery of anything mechanical, his extraordinary knowledge of anything and everything, his great sense of humor, but especially his love for his devoted family. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 2408 S.E. 16th Ave., Portland, OR. 97214, with reception following. All are invited and welcome. Viewing available at Holman’s Funeral Service. Remembrances may be made to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.


Visitation will be held at Holman’s Funeral & Cremation Service on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 9 AM until 4 PM.


Committal will be private.

Visitation will be held at Holman’s Funeral & Cremation Service on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 9 AM until 4 PM.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.  Reception to follow.

Committal will be private.
