Sol E. Menashe of Southwest Portland passed away on Wednesday, August 2nd. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, August 6th, at Ahavai Shalom Cemetery, 9323 SW First Avenue, Portland, OR 97219. He was born in Portland on June 13, 1924 to Ezra and Joya Menashe, and was a graduate of Shattuck Grade School, Lincoln High School, and Portland State University.
Sol served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, and later in the U.S. Navy Reserve. In 1950, he married Rebecca Abouaf of Vallejo, California, and they made their home in Portland until her passing in 1990.
Sol worked as an accountant for the City of Portland for many years, as well as Corno’s Produce Market. He was a longtime member of Congregations Neveh Shalom and Ahavath Achim, and supporter of many organizations, especially Camp Solomon Schechter.
He is survived by his sons, Richard (Abby) and Sanford (Wendi); grandsons Alex, Ben, David and Daniel; sister Beulah Schauffer, brother Jack Menashe, and longtime companion, Donna Jackson.
