Sam Premo Scopacasa

October 31, 1922 - November 12, 2017

After living a full and joyful life, Sam P. Scopacasa passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2017.  He was 95 years young.

Sam was born, raised and lived all his life in SE Portland.  His parents were Vincent and Victoria Scopacasa, immigrants from Calabria, Italy.  Sam graduated Grout Elementary and Benson High School.  In 1942, he joined the United States navy.  Sam was a proud Veteran of World War II.  Sam was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946 and returned home.  A few months later he met and fell in love with a pretty, Italian girl named Carolyn Piro.  The two were married on June 1, 1947.  This past June they celebrated 70 wonderful years in love, laughter and happily-ever-after with a party surrounded by their large extended family.  He had a heart bigger than he was and a contagious laugh that endeared him to all.

Sam worked along side his father and brother in the family business, Scopacasa & Sons Building Contractors.

Sam is survived by his loving and devoted wife Carolyn, daughters, Victoria (Steve) Cunningham, Debra Price, Donna Scopacasa and Sandra (Jim) Forquer, 7 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and his most recent joys, 2 great grandchildren.  Sam is also survived by his sister Bette Wolff, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.  Sam was preceded in death by his parents and brother Pete.
