Robert Steinberg

May 27, 1941 – June 7, 2018

Bob Steinberg was born in Portland on May 27, 1941 to Gus and Harriet (Packouz) Steinberg.  He attended Irving Grade School and graduated from Grant High School in 1959 before graduating from University of Oregon in 1963.  He then served in the US Army while stationed in Germany from 1963-1965.  Bob then began a successful career in the insurance brokerage industry when he joined his grandfather’s and uncle’s business, Packouz Insurance Agency.  Soon after, he and his cousin purchased the business renaming it Packouz and Steinberg, Inc..  In the mid-1980’s, the business merged with a large, international insurance brokerage called Fred S. James where Bob became the Chief Administrative Officer of the Oregon division until his retirement in 2000.  At that point Bob began a satisfying second career as a consultant to insurance agencies in the Pacific Northwest.

It was always important for Bob to give back to his community, and served on a number of non-profit boards including the Robison Home (Cedar Sinai Park), Congregation Beth Israel, and Chamber Music Northwest.  In his final years, he mentored many local small business owners through the SCORE Association.  Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wendy, and their two sons Lance (Mary) and Brent (Jessica), and grandchildren Gabriela, Adriana, Marisa, Jake, and Sophie.  He is also survived by his brother, Neil.  Donations can be made to Cedar Sinai Park, 6125 SW Boundary St., Portland, OR 97221 or www.cedarsinaipark.org.
