Robert Delf, Jr. Born October 1, 1943 in San Fernando, California. Transitioned on February 14, 2017 at his home in Portland, Oregon.
Robert grew up in Southern California enjoying surf and sun. The son of a career Navy Father, his family traveled a lot including an extended residence in Guam.
Robert joined the Army at age 17 as a lab technician. A job he received accolades for. After military service Robert earned his bachelors degree from San Diego State University and later earned his masters degree from Portland State University.
Since 1967, Robert has held many work positions associated with Health care. The last of these as the executive director of the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland (Oregon). He chose this line of work as a way to contribute and make a difference in people’s lives.
Robert was the younger brother to Christine Heuser. He had 3 sons; Jason, Eric, and Michael. He described his sons as a constant source of joy and pride in his life. Robert was grandpa to 4 grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Robert enjoyed many different activities in his life. He was playing guitar in a rock band and music was very instrumental in his life. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Troby and taking long random drives just “to see what is new.” He was well known in his neighborhood as the man who sings to the ladies, always wanting to put a smile on someones face. He had a wonderful and quirky sense of humor, evidenced by calling himself “Raul” sometimes when he traveled. His thirst for knowledge of things he did not know was endless, and inspired others to explore knowledge and take risks.
Robert was a very loving and supportive father. Always available and understanding. He wanted the best for his sons in anything they chose to pursue.
Robert “transitioned” to what was next for him on Valentines Day, Just in time to rejoin the love of his life. Thanks to an exceptional staff of caregivers he was able to be at home till the end.
Robert Delf, an amazing man that will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his sons Jason and Michael Delf, sister Christine Heuser, and four grandsons. A memorial service will be held at Holman’s Funeral & Cremation Service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
Contributions in his memory may be made to Metropolitan Medical Foundation of Oregon (Mini Grant Program and/or Physician Wellness Program)
