Nora Elizabeth Nelson passed away May 9, 2018 at her home at Mary’s Woods in Lake Oswego. Nora Keane was born in The Dalles in 1921. She grew up in Portland with four siblings. She graduated from Marylhurst University with a degree in English. In 1948, she married George Nelson. Together they raised eight children.
When her eighth child entered grade school, Nora worked as a substitute teacher at Holy Redeemer Catholic School. She later worked in the field on projects for the federal government, including a survey on aging. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer parish, assisting with numerous parish events and serving on the Holy Redeemer Altar Society. She also delivered hundreds of meals as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband George; by four of her children: Joan; Jim; Sally; and Janet and by her siblings: Bill; Dan; Paul; Rosemary; and John. She is survived by sons Vincent and David (Ana); daughters Mary (Frank) and Laura (John); grandsons Peter; Benjamin; Chris; Keith; Pedro; Nelson and Jesse; sixteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., May 29, 2018 at Mary’s Woods in Lake Oswego. Reception to follow.
