James Warren Litton, 84, of Portland, Oregon, passed away in the arms of family on Sunday, July 16th. A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, he will be deeply missed.
Jim was born in Sidney, Ohio in 1933 to Claude and Ina Litton. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. While in Korea, he met his beloved wife, Sue. They were married in San Francisco on August 26, 1954. Rooted in a true partnership, their marriage only grew stronger with time.
After he graduated from Ohio State University, Jim and Sue moved to Portland in 1964 with their three young children where he worked as an industrial engineer. During his long and varied career, Jim’s hands-on approach, relaxed nature, and quiet confidence earned the friendship and respect of his colleagues.
After he retired in 1998, Jim remained as busy as ever, spending time with family and friends and indulging in his love for gardening, woodworking and travel. Most importantly, Jim always had time to hand-craft toys for his grandchildren and answer their questions about “how do things work”.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Janet and Mike Long, Kathie and Andy Wold, and David and Nancy Litton; grandchildren Rachel, Olivia, James, Jacob, Barney, and Anne; great-grandson, Odin; his sister, Darlene Day; brother and sister-in-law, Jonathan and Trish Litton; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by Sue, who passed away on October 30, 2016.
Jim will be remembered by all who knew him for his smile and generosity, and as a teacher and mentor. He will be missed.
A private service will be held at a later date.
For those who wish to do so, contributions can be made in Jim’s memory to the Rose Schnitzer Manor Employee Recognition Fund in appreciation for the incredible care he received and the friendships he made during his time there:
