Donna died peacefully at Hopewell House in SW Portland at age 100.
Born in Boise Idaho to John and Pauline Dykstra. Her mothers family came west on a covered wagon. Her fathers family were Dutch immigrants. The family moved to Portland when she was 4 years old. She attended Kennedy School, Jefferson High School, and The Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing. She married her high school sweetheart Donald Jost prior to WW2.
In 1951 they moved the family to Lebanon, Oregon where she and Don started Jost Funeral Home. The business prospered and after 20 years of hard work they enjoyed a long retirement that included criss/ crossing North America in a motor home. They made their home in Tigard and Wilsonville. Most recently Donna was a resident of Springridge court in Charbonneau.
She is survived by her sons, Don, Phil and Doug (Cyndi Murray), six grandsons, Jim, Jon, David, Steven, Andrew, and Tyler, plus 12 great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Holman’s Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 18th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to Shriners children’s Hospital. Her favorite nursing duty.
