Allan Don Tompkins passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family in his Portland, Oregon home on Saturday afternoon, March 4, 2017, at the age of 80 years young, after a short battle with cancer.
Allan was born October 22, 1936 in Portland, Oregon to parents Donald Ellis Tompkins and Thelma Kathryn Osborne. When their marriage failed, Allan and his two sisters Barbara and Patty were removed from the home and each placed in separate foster homes. This was a rough time for Allan as he was moved to 13 different foster homes.
In the late 50’s, Allan had a brief marriage which resulted in two sons, Chris and Scott. In 1962 Allan met the love of his life, Miriam Joy Misenhimer, also of Portland Oregon. They had three children; Shannon, Angela, Steve.
In their early married life Allan enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing. He was a local delivery driver for Superior Fast Freight for over 30 years. While there he played on his company’s slow pitch softball team. When his son Steve was young Allan coached his little league baseball team.
Allan had a love of music throughout his life, besides singing regularly in church, he also was a nightclub singer before he met Miriam. Allan really enjoyed God’s beauty in rocks and agates. He enjoyed sharing them with local elementary school children.
Allan had a deep faith in God, and his love of the Lord greatly influenced his life in every way.
Allan is survived by Miriam his wife of 53 years, children Shannon, Angie and Steve and eight grandchildren. He is greatly loved and will be missed. He is now happy and carefree with his Lord and Savior.
