Albert William "Nick" Baumann

August 1, 1924 - October 16, 2017

Nick, a long-time resident of Portland, passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital on October 16th. He was the son of Virginia A. Jorgensen and Frank J. Baumann, the brother of Elaine (Baumann) Blanchard, the husband of Dorothy F. (Nudo) Baumann, and the father of Lisa M. (Baumann) Carney and Christopher A. Baumann. He had six grandchildren: Nicholas, Stephen, James, and Aaron Carney; Avery and Austin Baumann. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Nick was raised in Mill Valley, California and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the Second World War. Upon discharge, he settled in Portland and soon married Dorothy. They were married on June 23,1946, and remained happily married until she passed away on December 4th, 2001.  They lived all their married life in Southeast Portland and were members of the Saint Anthony’s Church Parish. He lived his final years in St. Anthony’s Village.

Nick graduated from the University of Portland in 1951 and was a proud and active supporter of the Pilots throughout the remainder of his life. Nick and Dorothy could often be found at home basketball games and soccer matches, where they left no doubt of their allegiance.

Nick was self-employed, owning a custom tailor shop in the Morgan Building. Baumann’s Custom Shop was one of the original tenants of Morgan’s Alley, and remained a prominent fixture in the Alley until he retired in 2000. He had a diverse collection of loyal customers who appreciated his ability to give them the perfect suit.

Nick was a long-time member of Club Paesano and participated in a number of their events.

Nick was also one of the original season ticket holders for the Trailblazers. He was the well-dressed fan in section 115 throughout the Memorial Coliseum days. More than a few of the Blazers could be seen wearing Nick Baumann creations.
